The Voices Garbage Bag Fashion Show is a collaboration between Graffiti Gallery and Voices: Manitoba’s Youth in Care Network. Voices: Manitoba’s Youth in Care Network provides support, encouragement, and advocacy to young people in and from care in Manitoba. The future that many youth in care face includes having to quickly move from one foster home to another, with all their belongings moved in garbage bags. The fashion show features outfits made entirely from garbage bags, symbolizing the struggles and resilience of these youth.
The runway outfits are designed by Voices Youth Leaders and mentored by feature designers; Amy McPherson @fashionikwe/ Métis jewelry, clothing and costume designer, Owner of Fashion Ikwe Designs. Runways: Red Road Runway, SWAIA, Native Max Magazine, VIFW and Evan Ducharme @evanducharmestudio National Geographic, The Globe and Mail, Vanity Fair Italia, FASHION Magazine, ELLE Canada, and Vogue.com.
