Voices: Manitoba’s Youth in Care Network is hosting a series of discussions with youth-in-care and former youth-in-care in Thompson, Brandon, Winnipeg, and Steinbach.  We want to know what kinds of supports would help you (and other youth-in/from-care), and how Voices, a youth-driven, community-based organization for youth-in-care in Manitoba, can be one of your supports.

Our discussion will not be about specific CFS agencies or CFS agency services.  We will focus on peer supports, informal supports, advocacy, and other resources. We strongly encourage youth in/from care who have not participated in Voices programming in the past, to participate in these discussion groups.

The discussions will be guided by a company called ChangeMakers.  In each community, the discussions will be divided into two groups: youth ages 14 to 18, and 19 to 24 years old.

Winnipeg Focus Groups:

Thursday, May 30th, 2019 (for young people who do not know Voices)

and

Monday, June 10th, 2019 (for young people who know Voices)

Youth 14-18: 4:30pm   Youth 19-24: 6:30pm

Snacks and refreshments will be provided.  We are also able to help cover costs for travel for you and a support worker if needed. Please let us know of any needs related to travel as soon as possible so that we can plan to assist.

If you would like to participate in this discussion group, send an email to marie@voices.mb.ca with the following information:

  • Your name
  • Your age
  • Focus group community (Thompson, Brandon, Winnipeg, or Steinbach)
  • If you will bring a support worker
  • Transportation needs (like bus tokens, cab fare, or money to help with gas if you live outside of one of the communities)

Youth who are selected to participate will be contacted with further details.

As a young person with experience living in care, you are our chief stakeholder, and your voice is essential to the success of this process and the development of the Network!  Call 204-982-4956 (or toll free in Manitoba 1-866-982-4956) if you have any questions or need additional information.
